Art Deco Festival Napier
has grown into one of the
great festivals of the world.
But more than that, it’s
an acknowledgement of the
resilience and spirit of the
Hawke’s Bay communities who,
in the aftermath of the 1931
earthquake, rolled up their
sleeves and rebuilt Napier
City, creating the magnificent
Art Deco capital that we
celebrate today.
Join us for an unforgettable
immersive festival experience,
brimming with the energy,
optimism, and all that jazz
of the Art Deco era!

Welcome from Barbara Arnott
Board Chair, Art Deco Trust
The Art Deco Trust is thrilled to present the Art Deco Festival Napier 2024!
After facing three years of Covid-related challenges and the unfortunate
cancellation of the 2023 event due to Cyclone Gabrielle, we’re back and
ready to celebrate! Napier is gearing up for a spectacular party,
and the Art Deco Festival is unlike any other.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to Napier City Council for their
unwavering support during these challenging times. We also want to thank
our valued sponsors, local businesses, and organisations whose generous
contributions make the free festival events possible. A special shoutout
goes to our dedicated Trust Board members, our hardworking staff, and our
indefatigable volunteers, who tirelessly bring the Art Deco Napier
experience to life.
With a lineup of hundreds of events spanning four days, many of which are
free to enjoy, get ready to immerse yourself in a world of vintage cars, lively
jazz bars, and fabulous festival fashions. Join us in February 2024 for an
unforgettable experience and discover for yourself why Napier
is celebrated as the Art Deco capital of the world!
Welcome from Kirsten Wise
Mayor of Napier
It is wonderful to welcome you to Napier, the Art Deco capital
of the world!
We have had a challenging time in Hawke’s Bay over the past year with
Cyclone Gabrielle making its mark. Ours is a resilient community though,
and as soon as we could we got back to business. Much of our city is built
as a direct response to the effects of a natural disaster, the 1931 Earthquake.
We have daily reminders of what is possible, and of the innovation,
entrepreneurship and energy it takes to rebuild. The strength
of those who have come before us has given us the motivation needed
to get our region back on its feet.
The Art Deco Festival is a celebration of an important part of our heritage
but it is also an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate our
special character. It contributes to the vibrancy of our inner city.
It gives us a chance to welcome new visitors and welcome back
long-term friends. It gives locals a sense of pride and family an
added reason to visit our home.
Napier is proud to host the Art Deco Festival and pleased to be
able to share this celebration and our unique part of Aotearoa
New Zealand with you.
Art Deco Trust
Guardian of our
Art Deco era heritage
Since forming in 1985 to advocate for the preservation
and restoration of our Art Deco era heritage, the Art
Deco Trust has ourished and now operates a range
of heritage focused activities, including the Art Deco
Festival Napier.
None of our activities would be possible without the
commitment and passion of our supporters who
contribute their time, creativity and resources towards
the sustainable operation of the Trust.
If you would like to subscribe as a member, join as
a volunteer, or sponsor our activities, we would be
delighted to hear from you. Your assistance enables
our charity to preserve, restore and celebrate our
Art Deco treasures which are the very essence of
our beautiful city, and provide signicant social and
economic benets to the community.
Join today! And let the spirit of Art Deco shine on!

NAPIER
Proud supporters of the
Art Deco Festival Napier
Our Art Deco Festival is a wonderful celebration of our
past, our architecture, our community. Napier at its best.
Get your glad rags on, dust o the boaters and bow ties
– and join the party.
