Grand Bahama Island Introduces New US & Canada Flight Routes!
Sunwing Vacations, Bahamasair, and American Airlines Increase Inbound Flight Options
FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA - Experiencing Grand Bahama just got easier with the expansion of
flight routes from several US and Canadian airports. Sunwing Vacations will resume flights
between Montreal and Toronto to Freeport, on December 17, for the duration of the 2022-2023
winter season. Bahamasair also reintroduced inbound flights from Orlando, FL and will begin new
service from Raleigh, NC, in addition to the airline's Fort Lauderdale, FL flight offerings. American
Airlines' existing Grand Bahama flight schedule also expanded to include Charlotte, NC in addition
to their Miami, FL route.
The introduction of new flight options during the winter months will allow more visitors to enjoy
Grand Bahama’s three distinct regions - the “out islands” experience of Western Grand Bahama,
the Freeport & Lucaya city center, and the eco-wonderland that can be found in Eastern Grand
Bahama.
This holiday season, guests and residents alike can partake in cultural events like the annual
Junkanoo Parade (a traditional Bahamian street parade that includes colorful and intricate
handmade costumes, brass instruments and the pulsating rhythm of goat-skin drums) which will
take place on New Year’s Day at 6pm, as well as the weekly Smith’s Point Fish Fry (which is an
authentic ‘fish fry’ event which takes place ocean-side, each Wednesday, and offers fresh-caught
seafood cooked on a wood-burning open flame). Other popular spots to visit include West End (a
small community on the western end of the island that is popular for fresh seafood, conch salad,
gully wash, conch fritters and pancakes, especially on the weekend), swimming and learning
about wild stingrays via West End Ecology Tours, the Port Lucaya Marketplace, Owl’s Hole, the
Lucayan National Park, Gold Rock Beach, the UNEXSO Dolphin Experience, the Pirate's Cove
Zipline and Water Park, Garden of the Groves, as well as a many other water sports and off-road
activity options.
In addition to a number of other seasonal events and festivals, The Bahamas will be celebrating
50 years of Independence in 2023. There will be a year-long series of anniversary celebrations
and events on Grand Bahama, as well as throughout the entire country.
Grand Bahama also has over 120 restaurants, beachfront eateries, and unique food stalls that
visitors can enjoy during the holiday season, in addition to over 15 resort, hotel and villa/vacation
rental accommodation options. These include Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach All-Inclusive
