Facilities Planning & Management
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN- MADISON
INTERIOR FINISH GUIDELINES
» Standard colors have been chosen for:
• Paint
• Rubber wall base and ߕ oor transitions
• Carpet tile
• Plastic laminate
• Solid surface countertops
• Toilet partitions
» The Campus Standard palette of paint
colors includes a carefully curated
selection of neutrals and accent colors.
» Sherwin Williams 6147 “Panda White”
will be used for any white painted
surfaces.
» Facility managers and the UW Physical
Plant Shops will have swatches for
all campus standard materials. For
maintenance or small projects, end users
are encouraged to select colors from the
standard palette.
» Existing building standard whites, trim
colors, accent colors, etc. will not change
unless there is a major renovation project
or maintenance initiative to refresh
large areas of the building, or a ߔ nish
is made obsolete by a manufacturer
(most common in ߕ ooring products).
In such cases, new standards will be
selected from our preapproved palette
in coordination with existing building
ߔ nishes such as stone, terrazzo, wood,
etc.
» Due to their architectural and/or
historical signiߔ cance, the following
surfaces shall not be painted:
• exposed concrete block
• brick or stone masonry
• glazed block or tile
• raw metal
• cast in place or precast concrete
These surfaces may be cleaned to
help restore them to their original
condition. Consideration for altering
these ߔ nishes must be discussed with
design personnel.
» Due to the wide range of resilient
ߕ ooring options (vinyl tile, rubber
ߕ ooring, sheet vinyl, etc.), standards
are not established and each
application should be evaluated in
conjunction with design personnel.
» No maintenance funding will be considered for any
work where non-standard Ä nishes are used.
