Simple instruction Manual for the use of the Loynds drop roller machine.
Warning: The machine can be of a dangerous nature so please make sure the guards are fitted at all times, keep
fingers and clothing away from the machine. Always use with caution.
Removing the rollers. Remove the guarding, undo the two bolts on the top of the two roller bearing support
units, then remove the brass bearings blocks that centre the rollers, the infeed and outfeed slides should be
detached. Then the rollers can now be lifted out of the machine. To put the rollers into the machine reverse this
process.
When putting the rollers into the machine you need to make sure the pattern on each roller is lined up, to do this
line up the two dots ate the end of the rollers with the small gears, make sure these face each other and the
pattern on the rollers will line up accordingly.
When the machine is ready for production please proceed as follows:-
Make sure the rollers are evenly on top of each other, tighten the rollers down with the thumb screws, do not
over tighten these, just make sure the rollers are evenly touching and are a little more than finger tight
Prepare a piece of candy into a flat sheet a little less wide than the forming rollers and just a little thicker than
the impressions on the rollers. Then with the machine turned on feed the candy into the infeed side of the
rollers, once the rollers get hold of the candy the rollers will pull in the candy, on the outfeed of the machine a
sheet of candies will exit from the machine, once the sheet of candy is passed through the machine the process
is repeated.
When the candy sheet is passing through the rollers you need to assist the sheet of candies so it lies on a free
area of a table, a candy cooling or marble table are perfect for this as they will help to cool the candies quickly,
the addition of a fan blowing cool air on top of the sheets of candies will also assist cooling.
Once the candies have hardened you need to break them up, if doing this by hand gather the candies together
and shuffle them around with gloved hands, this will break up the thin webbing that joins the candies together,
rubbing the candies together will remove most of the burrs and rough edges around the candy, after this process
is complete sieve the candies in a sieve to remove the unwanted webbing and be left with nicely formed
candies.
The machine is a simple machine. It only requires basic maintenance that when the rollers are removed for
cleaning that the gears are lightly greased or oiled, the brass bearings where the rollers run should also be
lightly greased. The drive chain should be oiled approximately every three months.
