Saturday, June 29, at 11:30 a.m. ET, televised on NHL Network and ESPN+. Carolina made
10 selections in the 2023 NHL Draft, including first-round pick Bradly Nadeau (30th overall).
HISTORY OF THE 27TH PICK
Carolina’s first selection in the 2024 NHL Draft is set to be 27th overall in the first round.
Notable players taken 27th overall include Scott Mellanby (PHI, 1984), Joe Nieuwendyk
(CGY, 1985), Tie Domi (TOR, 1988), Scott Gomez (NJD, 1998) and John Carlson (WSH,
2008). This would mark the second time that Hartford/Carolina has drafted 27th overall,
after the Hurricanes selected Philippe Paradis in 2009. They also held the 27th selection in
the 2021 NHL Draft (Zachary L’Heureux) but traded the pick to Nashville in exchange for
two second-round picks used to select Scott Morrow and Ville Koivunen.
BLOODLINES
The following prospects in this year’s draft have family ties to past Whalers/Hurricanes draft
selections:
-- Ryder Ritchie (Prince Albert, F, #19-ranked North American skater) is the son of Byron
Ritchie, selected by Hartford in the seventh round (165th overall) of the 1995 NHL Draft.
Byron tallied two assists in 33 NHL games with the Hurricanes from 1998-02.
-- Blake Montgomery (Lincoln, F, #101-ranked North American skater) is the brother of
Bryce Montgomery, selected by the Hurricanes in the sixth round (170th overall) of the
2021 NHL Draft.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Four Hurricanes draft selections made their NHL debuts with Carolina in 2023-24:
-- Vasily Ponomarev (53rd overall, 2020) skated in two games for Carolina and recorded two points (1g, 1a) in his NHL/Hurricanes debut
at WSH (1/5), becoming the fifth player in team history (since relocation) to accomplish the feat.
-- Scott Morrow (40th overall, 2021) made his NHL/Hurricanes debut at STL (4/12) and posted six shots on goal and two blocked shots
in two contests with Carolina. He logged 23:11 of ice time in the team’s regular-season finale at CBJ (4/16), becoming the second rookie

GO FISH
Sebastian Aho (35th overall, 2015) registered a career-high 89 points (36g, 53a) in 78 games with Carolina in 2023-24, leading the team
in goals, assists and points for the third time in his NHL/Hurricanes career (also 2020-21, 2021-22). He is one of just two players in
franchise history to finish at least tied for the team lead in all three major categories in at least three different seasons, alongside Eric
Staal (2005-06, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2011-12). Aho also led all Hurricanes skaters in even-strength goals (21), even-strength assists (34),
even-strength points (55), power-play assists (21), power-play points (32), game-winning goals (10), multi-point games (23), multi-assist
games (12), three-point games (11) and four-point games (2). His 10 game-winning goals established a new single-season franchise
record, and his 11 three-point games tied Eric Staal (2005-06, 2007-08) for the most in any season in team history (since relocation). He
was also selected to the NHL All-Star Game for the third time (also 2018-19, 2021-22), becoming the fifth Whalers/Hurricanes skater to
receive the honor in three or more seasons. Aho recorded a team-high 12 points (4g, 8a) in 11 games during the 2024 Stanley Cup
Playoffs, and he has now finished at least tied for the team scoring lead in each of his first six postseasons (2019-24), joining Wayne
Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as the only players to accomplish the feat. He now ranks third in franchise history in career goals (254),
assists (303) and points (557), and he already holds the franchise playoff records for all three categories (27-43—70), while his 74
postseason games played are tied with Jordan Staal for the most of any player with Hartford/Carolina. Aho also sits third in career goals,
fourth in points, sixth in assists, first in shorthanded goals (17), second in game-winning goals (55) and fourth in power-play goals (63)
among players from the 2015 NHL Draft, and his 254 goals trail only Connor McDavid (EDM: 335) and Mikko Rantanen (COL: 262).
YUNG JARVY
Seth Jarvis (13th overall, 2020) recorded 67 points (33g, 34a) in 2023-24, and he set new career highs in nearly every major category,
including goals, assists, points, power-play goals (13), power-play points (20), shorthanded goals (2), shorthanded points (3), even-
strength goals (18), game-winning goals (9), plus/minus (+23), hits (115), blocked shots (52), takeaways (43) and ice time per game
(18:45). He paced all Hurricanes skaters in power-play goals and tied for the team lead in shorthanded goals (2), and he trailed only
Sebastian Aho in goals, assists, points, power-play points, game-winning goals and plus/minus. Jarvis also posted nine points (5g, 4a)
in 11 playoff games, leading the team in goals, power-play goals (2) and power-play points (4). Fueling the NHL’s second-ranked power
play during the regular season (26.9%), he also scored a team-high 10 power-play goals on the road, tying Eric Staal (2005-06) for the
most by any Hurricanes skater in a single season (since relocation). Jarvis scored the fourth-most road power-play goals of any NHL
skater in 2023-24, trailing only Sam Reinhart (FLA: 16), Kirill Kaprizov (MIN: 13) and Leon Draisaitl (EDM: 11), and he helped Carolina
become just the sixth team since 1977-78 to convert on at least 30.0% of their power plays away from home. The Hurricanes also suffered
just two regulation losses when he lit the lamp in the regular season (25-2-1), bringing his career record to 48-3-5 when scoring a goal.
Among the 2020 NHL Draft class, Jarvis now ranks fifth in career games played (231), tied for fourth in goals (64) and hits (257), fourth
in points (146), tied for third in power-play points (31), third in assists (82) and power-play goals (15), tied for second in shorthanded goals
(3) and shorthanded points (4) and second in game-winning goals (13). He also leads his draft class in career playoff goals (13), power-
play goals (5), power-play points (9) and hits (107). Off the ice, Jarvis was selected by the Carolina chapter of the Professional Hockey
Writers’ Association as the winner of the Josef Vasicek Award for cooperation with the local media.
SVECH ARTIST
Andrei Svechnikov (2nd overall, 2018) posted 52 points (19g, 33a) in 59 regular-season games with Carolina in 2023-24, reaching the
50-point mark for the third straight season and the fourth time in his NHL/Hurricanes career. Despite missing 23 games due to injury and
illness, he finished fifth on the team in goals and points, tied for fourth in assists, third in game-winning goals (8) and tied for first in hits
(142) during the regular season. Svechnikov also tallied 11 points (2g, 9a) in 11 postseason contests and ranked first on the team in
assists, second in points and hits (27) and tied for second in power-play points (3). He posted six consecutive multi-point games from
12/23-1/5 (7g, 7a), tied for the longest such streak of any NHL skater last season as well as the longest such streak in franchise history,
and his 15 multi-point outings were the third-most of any Hurricanes skater. Svechnikov also scored his third career “lacrosse-style” goal
against the Bruins on 4/9, after scoring the first two such goals in NHL history in 2019-20. Carolina did not suffer a regulation loss in any
of his 18 games with a goal last season, as the team’s only such defeat came in overtime in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second
Round vs. NYR. Svechnikov has registered 316 points (131g, 185a) in 406 career NHL/Hurricanes games, and among players selected
in the 2018 NHL Draft, he now ranks first in career game-winning goals (26), second in goals (131), power-play goals (43), even-strength
goals (119), even-strength points (219), plus/minus (+48) and hits (1,531), third in points (316), power-play points (97) and power-play
assists (68) and fourth in assists (185). He also leads his draft class in career playoff goals (15), even-strength goals (12), and hits (152).
BURGEONING FOURTH
Jaccob Slavin (120th overall, 2012) tallied 37 points (6g, 31a) in 81 games with Carolina in 2023-24, reaching the 30-assist mark for the
third time in his NHL/Hurricanes career (also 2021-22: 38a, 2019-20: 30a) and tying Justin Faulk (2013-19) for the most 30-point seasons
by any blueliner in franchise history (6). Slavin has now registered the most assists (223), points (272), playoff assists (29) and playoff
points (36) of any Whalers/Hurricanes defenseman, and his seven playoff goals have also tied Dave Babych’s record, set from 1986-90.
He was also assessed single-digit penalty minutes (8) for the third time in four seasons (2020-24) and won his second Lady Byng Memorial
Trophy (also 2020-21), given to the player who best combines sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct with a high standard of playing
ability. Slavin joined four-time winner Red Kelly (1950-51, 1952-54, 1960-61) as the second defenseman in NHL history to receive the
honor in multiple seasons. He has been assessed just 86 penalty minutes in 665 career NHL games since making his debut with Carolina
in 2015-16, and his 0:07 of penalty minutes per game ranks tied for the lowest mark in league history by a defenseman with at least 300
games played. Despite being the 41st blueliner taken in the 2012 NHL Draft, Slavin has played the eighth-most games of any defenseman
from his class and also ranks first in career ice time per game (22:33) and takeaways (638), tied for first in shorthanded points (15) and
plus/minus (+151), third in even-strength points (229), fourth in blocked shots (1,105) and sixth in assists and points among that group.
He and Brett Pesce (66th overall, 2013) both skated in their 600th career NHL/Hurricanes games this season, becoming the seventh
and eighth players drafted by Hartford/Carolina to log 600 games with the franchise.

JACKED UP
Jack Drury (42nd overall, 2018) played his first full NHL season with the Hurricanes in 2023-24, setting new career highs in goals (8),
assists (19), points (27), hits (30), blocked shots (35) and takeaways (22). He recorded seven points on the power play (2g, 5a) and 20
points at even strength (6g, 14a) after posting 10 points at all strengths (4g, 6a) over his first 43 career contests from 2021-23. Drury was
also assessed the first three fighting majors of his NHL career, dropping the gloves with Nick Paul (TBL), Connor Clifton (BUF) and John
Beecher (BOS), and he trailed only Brendan Lemieux (4) for the most fights of any Hurricanes skater. He added five points (1g, 4a) in
11 playoff contests, topping his previous postseason totals in goals, assists, points, even-strength points (5) and blocked shots (11).
Drury’s first career playoff goal also stood as the game- and series-winner in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round vs. NYI, as
he became the fourth Whalers/Hurricanes player to clinch a series victory with the first goal of his postseason career.
FROM RUSSIA WITH GLOVE
Pyotr Kochetkov (36th overall, 2019) earned a 23-13-4 record, 2.33 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and four shutouts in
a team- and career-high 42 appearances during the regular season in 2023-24. At 24 years old, he became the second-youngest goalie
to post a 20-win season with Hartford/Carolina, behind only Cam Ward. He also registered a 19-7-3 record, 2.05 goals-against average,
.923 save percentage and three shutouts over his final 30 games of the campaign (12/12-4/14), allowing two or fewer goals in 22 of his
29 decisions during that stretch. Kochetkov registered a 1.71 goals-against average, .940 save percentage and two shutouts in eight
February appearances, earning NHL Rookie of the Month honors. He posted back-to-back home shutouts in 1-0 wins over NJD (2/10)
and FLA (2/22), and his career-high 45 saves against the Devils marked the most in a shutout by any rookie in franchise history. Kochetkov
also extended his home shutout sequence to 160:21 before allowing the opening goal vs. DAL (2/24), surpassing Arturs Irbe (12/4/98-
12/26/98: 157:48) for the longest such streak in franchise history. His four shutouts in 2023-24 tied his career high, as he matched the
franchise’s rookie record for the second straight campaign (Peter Sidorkiewicz, 1988-89), and his eight shutouts over the past two seasons
are tied for the second-most of any NHL netminder (Connor Hellebuyck, WPG: 9). Kochetkov suffered an overtime loss in his only
postseason appearance in 2024, stopping 22 of 25 shots faced in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round vs. NYR. He leads
all netminders from the 2019 NHL Draft in career wins (38), goals-against average (2.37), save percentage (.910) and shutouts (8).

country to its first gold at the tournament since 2010. He posted seven points (1g, 6a) in five games, and his lone goal stood as the game-
winning tally in Czechia’s 7-3 semifinal victory over Sweden. Necas recorded 53 points (24g, 29a) with Carolina in 2023-24 and added

Alexander Nikishin (69th overall, 2020) captained SKA St. Petersburg to a league-best 40 wins in 2023-24, posting a team-high 56
points (17g, 39a) in 67 KHL games. He set career highs in goals and points, and he broke KHL records for points by an SKA defenseman
and points by a Russian-born defenseman, both of which he previously set in 2022-23. Nikishin also led the KHL with 24:15 of ice time
per game and a +32 rating, with career highs in both categories. He was selected as the league’s Defenseman of the Year and also
named a KHL All-Star, in addition to being named KHL Player of the Month in October and January. Alexander Rykov (100th overall,
2023) split the season between Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL) and Chelmet Chelyabinsk (VHL), recording eight points (6g, 2a) in 29 KHL
games and tallying 25 points (8g, 17a) in 27 VHL contests. He ranked first in goals per game (.207) and tied for fourth in goals and
plus/minus (+7) among all 18-year-olds in the KHL in 2023-24. He also finished tied for fifth in points and tied for fourth in assists among
all Chelmet skaters despite only playing half of the campaign in the VHL. Rykov skated in the first two Gagarin Cup Playoff games of his
KHL career and added two points (1g, 1a) in three MHL playoff appearances with Belye Medvedi Chelyabinsk.
ON POINT
Defensemen Charles-Alexis Legault (139th overall, 2023) and Joel Nystrom (219th overall, 2021) also signed entry-level contracts
with Carolina on 5/6 and 5/7, respectively. Legault tallied 24 points (9g, 15a) in 39 games in his sophomore season at Quinnipiac, ranking
second in scoring among Bobcats defensemen and fourth among all ECAC blueliners. He established new career highs in goals and
assists, and his +36 rating also finished tied for the Division I lead. Legault finished his collegiate career with 33 points (11g, 22a) in 79
games, after helping Quinnipiac capture the first national championship in program history as a freshman. Nystrom recorded 26 points
(8g, 18a) in 51 games with Farjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League. He ranked tied for fifth in goals and tied for ninth in points among
SHL defensemen, leading his team’s blue line in both categories. Nystrom has registered 59 points (19g, 40a) in 170 career SHL games,
and Farjestad won the Le Mat Trophy as league champions in his first full SHL season in 2021-22.
BLOC PARTY
Before signing entry-level contracts with Carolina in the offseason, Gleb Trikozov (60th overall, 2022) and Ruslan Khazheyev (158th
overall, 2023) faced off in the MHL’s Kharlamov Cup Playoffs, as both players competed for the Russian junior league title. Khazheyev
and Belye Medvedi overcame a 2-0 series deficit to eliminate Trikozov and Omskie Yastreby in a best-of-five quarterfinal matchup.
Khazheyev posted a 5-7 record, 2.48 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in seven MHL playoff games before falling to
eventual Kharlamov Cup Champion SKA-1946 in the league semifinals. Trikozov registered nine points (4g, 5a) in his seven postseason
appearances, and he has now tallied 43 points (21g, 22a) in 37 career MHL playoff games. Khazheyev made 28 appearances for Belye
Medvedi during the regular season, posting a 16-5-2 record, 2.19 goals-against average, .927 save percentage and two shutouts. He
also posted a win in his VHL debut with Chelmet Chelyabinsk, stopping 23 of 24 shots faced against Izhstal Izhevsk. Trikozov tallied 21
points (11g, 10a) in 39 contests with Omskie Krylia of the VHL, Russia’s second-highest professional league, and finished just two points
shy of the team scoring lead. He also recorded 18 points (12g, 6a) in 10 MHL games with Omskie Yastreby and skated in two KHL games
