The Regional
Transportation Authority
(RTA) provides nancial
oversight, funding, and
regional transit planning
for the three public transit
operations in Northeastern
Illinois: The Chicago
Transit Authority (CTA),
Metra and Pace bus and
paratransit. The Agency
provides customer services
including telephone travel
planning assistance and
travel training for people
with disabilities. The RTA
is the only transit agency
that focuses on the entire
region when determining
transit planning and
funding. The RTA
region has a population
of approximately eight
million people throughout six counties and 7,200

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) runs bus
and elevated/subway trains in Chicago and nearby

Pace moves people throughout the Chicago region

Transit Partners
South Shore Line runs trains on the Metra Electric
line from downtown Chicago to South Bend,
Indiana, serving the Southeast Side of Chicago and

Station to cities throughout Illinois and United

Bikes On Transit
CTA and Pace provide
bus service throughout
the Chicagoland region.
Customers can put
their bikes on bus bike
racks located on the
front of buses. Bikes are
permitted on CTA trains

New Ventra® cards cost $5 at Ventra vending machines. Add account
value using Ventra App, cash, coins, or bankcard at any Ventra
vending machine, or with credit/debit cards
online and by phone. Ventra Cards and passes
can be added to an iPhone, Apple Watch, or
to an Android device with Google Wallet.
Cash is accepted on buses. No transfers are issued when paying cash.

Metra Fares
Metra Tickets and Passes can be purchased using the Ventra App.
Purchase tickets at downtown terminals or at many outlying stations.
One-way tickets can also be purchased on the train ($5 surcharge if
agent on duty). Metra’s $10 Weekend Pass provides unlimited rides
