TAA JOB SEARCH ALLOWANCES CAN BE
APPROVED FOR, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY
OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
*Commuting area is travel up to 30 miles from your
primary residence, one way, by personal vehicle. If
you rely almost exclusively on public transportation,
the commuting area is defined as travel up to one
hour, one way, by public transportation.
**Suitable Employment is work of a substantially
equal or higher skill level than your past trade-
aected employment, and wages not less than 80%
of your average weekly wage.
BENEFITS
• Reimburses 90% of allowable costs, such as
transportation, lodging and meals, in accordance
with the Federal Travel Regulations (FTR)
• Reimbursement for the cost of lodging and meals
cannot exceed the lesser of:
• The actual cost for lodging and meals
while engaged in the job search OR
• Fifty percent (50%) of the prevailing per
diem allowance under the FTR
• Up to a maximum benefit allowance of $1,250
• Travel expenses to attend job fairs and
interviews
• Travel expenses to attend prevocational
workshops
• Making an in-person visit with a potential
employer who may reasonably be expected to
have openings for suitable employment**
• Completing a job application in person with
a potential employer who may reasonably
be expected to have openings for suitable
employment**
• Going to a local Career Center, copy shop, post
oce, or similar entity to print, copy, mail, email,
or fax a job application, cover letter, and/or a
resume
• Going to a local Career Center, public library,
community center, or similar entity to use online
job matching systems, search for job matches,
request referrals, submit applications/resumes,
attend workshops, and/or apply for jobs
• Travel expenses to attend a professional
association meeting for networking purposes
If you have a verifiable job interview or plans to look for
a job outside your commuting area,* you may be eligible
for Job Search Allowances. You must apply in advance.
If approved, you may be reimbursed 90% of the cost of
food, lodging and travel expenses (based on one-half
the federal per diem rate or the actual cost, whichever
is less). You may be reimbursed for more than one
job search; however, the total amount cannot exceed
$1,250. Your local TAA Case Manager will review your
job search request upon receipt of your application.
An application must be filed by the 365th day after the
trade-aected company was certified by USDOL, OR
the 365th day after your separation date, whichever is
later, OR by the 182nd day after you have completed
Trade Act-approved training.
