Magnetic
Island
Just a 20 minute ferry ride o
the coast of Townsville, Magnetic
Island’s relaxed tropical lifestyle,
quiet secluded beaches, unspoilt
nature, abundant wildlife and easy
access to the Great Barrier Reef,
makes it an ideal place for a day trip.
The rocky granite headlands fuse with
sheltered bays and beaches, studded
with majestic hoop pines, creating a
dramatic and spectacular coastline. Over
two thirds of the Island is classiied as
National Park, providing a haven for native
wildlife including rock wallabies, possums,
more than 100 bird species and Northern
Australia’s largest colony of koalas.
Horseshoe Bay
Visit the Island’s largest bay with
plenty on oer – go for a swim, try a
variety of watersports including
jet-skis and kayaks, or simply sit
back and relax. Enjoy a selection of
beachfront shops and eateries or
pack a picnic and enjoy on the beach.
Magnetic Island
Forts Walk
If it’s nature you like, don’t miss a walk
through Northern Australia’s largest
colony of wild koalas. The Forts Walk
is the best vantage point for wildlife,
spectacular views and historical
military sites. Allow two hours to
complete the walk and take plenty of
water.
Arcadia
Grab a bite to eat or a scoop of
ice-cream at Arcadia and walk across
the road to either Alma or Georey
Bay, perfect for a swim, relaxing on
the beach or an awesome animal
encounter visiting the social
rock wallabies.
Snorkel Trails
Magnetic Island features two
self-guided snorkel trails on Nelly
and Georey Bays. Pick up a swim
card from a variety of nearby shops,
which include a map of the trails and
information on the coral and marine
life you may see along the way!
