BECAUSE OF YOU
There is much to celebrate as ODU Athletics wraps up our first year in
the Sun Belt Conference.
Our women’s soccer team won ODU’s first Sun Belt title this past fall,
defeating James Madison in the championship game. Our field hockey
team won the Big East regular-season title and our men’s soccer team
defeated Marshall, which was ranked 4th nationally at the time.
ODU’s football team stunned Virginia Tech in our season home opener
and upended Sun Belt East Division champion Coastal Carolina on
the road, both on national TV. We had our first FBS All-American in
linebacker Jason Henderson and set a home attendance record, with
two sellouts and an average attendance of 20,232, an increase of 27%
from 2021.
Our 2023 football schedule is very attractive as we host Wake Forest,
the fourth ACC team to play at S.B. Ballard Stadium since we moved to
FBS, as well as games against Sun Belt stalwarts Appalachian State and
Coastal Carolina. Ticket prices remain the same as they were in 2022.
Our student-athletes were also winners o the field. Our 466 ODU
student-athletes set a record for the fall semester with a composite
3.28 grade point average. We had 191 on the Dean’s List (3.4 or better)
and 61 with a perfect 4.0 GPA. In addition, our student-athletes
completed 2,669 hours of volunteer work, from feeding the homeless
to working with special needs children, which ranks 17th nationally
for community service hours among the 363 NCAA Division I schools.
The Old Dominion Athletic Foundation raised a record $18
million in calendar year 2022 to support athletic scholarships,
improve our facilities and provide a competitive advantage
for all ODU coaches and student-athletes. For the 10th year in
a row, every ODU athletics employee donated to ODAF. That
shows the dedication and passion of those who coach and care
for our student-athletes have for ODU Athletics.
Donations assisted us in hiring Dr. Sonja Lund and a mental-
health support team to provide dedicated mental health
counseling for our student-athletes. We are setting up nutrition
centers at both the L.R. Hill Sports Complex and the Jim Jarrett
Athletic Administration Building to benefit all ODU student-athletes.
And this year, ODAF will fund $5 million in scholarships for our
athletes, which is 45 percent of our total scholarship bill.
ODU recently hired Populous architects to design a $20 million
renovation and expansion of the Bud Metheny Ballpark. ODU has
raised nearly $8 million, including a $2.5 million donation from Dennis
and Jan Ellmer to name the stadium. The University has provided $10
million for the project. Thank you President Hemphill.
We could not achieve the academic and athletic success we enjoy

The Monarch Scholarship Society is a group of ODAF donors
that make annual charitable contributions to the ODAF of at
least the value of a full scholarship for one student-athlete in a
calendar year. This value of the contribution changes from year
to year. These individuals will be honored with a special in-game
presentation and are an integral part of the continued success of
the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation.

check or using your Visa, MasterCard, or American Express card.
Checks should be made payable to the Old Dominion Athletic
Foundation. Payment plan options are available; please contact

Memorial & Honorarium Gis
Remember or honor a friend or a loved one with memorial gis
to the ODAF.
Estate planning
You may donate through will provisions, life insurance, and other
bequests. Estate gis may be made by donating a designated
amount, a real estate asset or making a residual bequest. If you
are interested in including ODU in your estate plans, please
contact our ODAF sta.
Matching gis
The ODAF accepts matching gis for membership. Please contact
your company’s benefits specialist for more information.
Donor Advised Fund (DAF), IRA’s and Private
Foundations
A contribution in these forms are welcomed. However, please
note the ODAF cannot oer any benefits for gis coming from any
of these sources per IRS regulations. Contributions from these
sources may only be applied to a gi that is 100% tax deductible.

year. However, if you are interested in securing any of the benefits listed throughout the
GamePlan, please consider making your ODAF contribution by May 1, 2023.
