Introduction
Glasgow is the setting for our rst away pool game in the 2017/2018
European Rugby Champions Cup campaign. Home to just under
600,000 people it is the largest city in Scotland, and third largest in the
UK. Glasgow is also home to a great deal of noteworthy architecture
including the 500 year old University and a number of buildings
designed by the renowned architect and designer Charles Rennie
Macintosh – of note is the Glasgow School of Art. A number of the
museums and galleries of note in Glasgow oer free admission.
Glasgow last took on Leinster in the old format European Cup back in
the 2011/12 season, with Leinster victorious on both occasions. Most
recently Leinster took on Glasgow in the RDS in the penultimate round
of the 2016/17 Guinness PRO12 in April and took the spoils 31-30. It was nail biting to the end, thanks in no
small part to the dangerously quick counter-attack and stubborn play so often displayed by Glasgow. The
oodlight asco added even more so to the tension. We hope that the visit this weekend will once again live
up to the standard both sides tend to deliver, and that we’ll be kept entertained and enthralled until the nal
whistle.
It is interesting to note that Glasgow Warriors hold the tournament record for the highest number of
consecutive seasons in which a team has made the playos, with ve seasons between 2011/12 and 2015/16.
Going further back and taking the Celtic League into account, this record is also shared with Leinster, who
made the playos the last two years of the Celtic League, and the rst three of the PRO12.
